  • Attend Saturday, July 15, 11 AM - A Day of Photography & Art at The Met

    The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Don't miss this chance to gather with some of your fellow photography enthusiasts for an afternoon of photography and art, as we visit The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The Museum currently has three interesting photography-related exhibitions on view. First, we'll visit "Berenice Abbott's New York Album, 1929." It consists of a collection of 266 small black-and-white photos taken from a photo album that Abbott put together after soon after returning to New York City after eight years in Europe. The exhibition also features photos by Eugene Atget, Walker Evans, Paul Grotz, and Margaret Bourke-White.

After that, we'll check out "Richard Avedon: MURALS." In this exhibition, we'll view some of Avedon's huge photomural portraits. (Some of these works are 35 feet wide!) We'll see prominent figures of the twentieth century – members of Andy Warhol’s Factory, architects of the Vietnam war, and demonstrators against that war.

Additionally, we have a final opportunity to view the "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty" exhibition in The Costume Institute, as the exhibit closes the following day. The exhibit examines Lagerfeld's unique working methodology, and features 150 pieces, accompanied by his sketches.

After the photo exhibitions, members of the group are welcome to explore other galleries and exhibitions in the museum on their own, if they wish to. Tip: Use the following map.

    Meeting Location/Event Host
Between 11 AM and 11:30 AM go into the handicapped entrance on 5th Avenue at East 81st Street (lower level). We will meet at the Education area beyond the elevators and the restrooms. Your event host is Arnold Plotnick. You will recognize him by his black Woodstock concert t-shirt.

    Parking/Transportation
Because parking is a nightmare in the city, it is highly recommended that you take public transportation to the museum. See Directions & Parking.

    Admission
For New York Residents, admission to the museum is FREE or 'Pay what you wish.' For non-New Yorkers, admission is $30 for adults, $22 for seniors.

    Acceptable Accessories
Visitors may wear a small backpack on the front or side and carry water in plastic or secure bottles.
